Veterinary Medicine Initiative at Clemson University,

The Darla Moore Scholars of Veterinary Medicine established

American investor and philanthropist Darla Moore continues to extend a legacy of consequential giving in education—this time through a purposeful investment at Clemson University. While Ms. Moore’s longstanding relationship with Clemson is well established, her broader philanthropic imprint across South Carolina has been most visibly realized at the University of South Carolina, where the Darla Moore School of Business stands as a lasting testament to her vision and generosity. With cumulative support to the University of South Carolina exceeding $70 million, her contributions have reshaped the academic and economic landscape of the state.

Announced on March 15, 2026, the Darla Moore Foundation has established the Darla Moore Scholars of Veterinary Medicine program at Clemson—an initiative distinguished not only by its generosity, but by its strategic clarity. Designed to expand access to veterinary education while reinforcing the vitality of rural South Carolina, the program reflects a deeply considered alignment between philanthropy and public need.

Beginning with its inaugural class this fall, the program will provide full financial support to a select cohort of scholars entering Clemson’s Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine. By removing the financial barriers associated with professional education—covering tuition, fees, and living expenses for up to four years—the initiative enables students of exceptional promise to pursue their training unencumbered, and with a clear path toward service.

Drawn from eight rural counties within South Carolina’s Pee Dee region—areas where access to veterinary care remains limited and agricultural economies are deeply interwoven with animal health—these scholars represent both investment and intention. The program not only cultivates individual opportunity, but also strengthens the broader fabric of rural communities, advancing Clemson’s land-grant mission through education, research, and outreach.

In this effort, Ms. Moore’s philanthropy reflects a hallmark characteristic of enduring impact: the ability to identify where opportunity and need intersect, and to act with both precision and purpose.
