Harvard Stem Cell Institute

Randal G. Moore and The Moore Family Trust Steadfast Commitment to Science

Founded in 2004, HSCI is a university-wide initiative of Harvard University that integrates scientists, clinicians, and affiliated hospitals into a single research ecosystem. It was established to accelerate the translation of stem cell discoveries into treatments for major human diseases.

Unlike a single department, HSCI functions as a cross-disciplinary consortium, bringing together hundreds of faculty members across Harvard schools and premier teaching hospitals (e.g., Dana-Farber, Mass General, Boston Children’s.

Randal Moore

For decades, Randal “Ran” G. Moore has maintained a steadfast commitment to advancing medical research that holds the potential to redefine patient outcomes and transform the trajectory of human health. Among these enduring efforts is his long-standing support of the Harvard Stem Cell Institute (HSCI)—a pioneering collaborative at the forefront of regenerative medicine and translational science.

Mr. Moore’s funding has been directed toward accelerating high-impact research initiatives that bridge fundamental discovery with clinical application. Through sustained philanthropic investment, his support has contributed to enabling early-stage scientific inquiry, advancing disease modeling, and fostering the development of novel cell-based and gene-based therapies targeting some of the most complex and underserved conditions in medicine.

The Harvard Stem Cell Institute’s unique model—integrating Harvard University, its affiliated hospitals, and leading investigators across disciplines—reflects a vision closely aligned with Mr. Moore’s own: that meaningful progress in medicine is achieved through collaboration, intellectual rigor, and a willingness to support bold, innovative science.

The Moore Family Trust

The Moore Family Trust, under the leadership of Randal “Ran” G. Moore, has provided transformational funding in support of the Harvard Stem Cell Institute (HSCI), advancing one of the most dynamic and collaborative platforms in modern biomedical research.

Through this commitment, the Trust has helped accelerate pioneering work in stem cell biology, regenerative medicine, and translational science—enabling investigators to move promising discoveries from the laboratory toward clinical application. This support is particularly impactful in its ability to fund early-stage, high-potential research initiatives that often serve as the foundation for breakthrough therapies across a broad spectrum of diseases.

HSCI’s integrated model—uniting Harvard University, its affiliated teaching hospitals, and a global network of leading scientists—aligns closely with The Moore Family Trust’s mission to advance medical innovation through disciplined investment in scientific excellence and collaboration.

The Trust’s ongoing partnership with HSCI reflects a shared vision: to drive meaningful progress in medicine, expand the boundaries of what is possible in patient care, and translate scientific discovery into lasting, real-world impact.

Because We Can; Because We Must

The Harvard Stem Cell Institute represents a modern model of biomedical innovation—highly collaborative, translationally focused, and philanthropically leveraged—designed to convert cutting-edge stem cell science into tangible medical outcomes.
