The Moore Family Trust Foundation has made a gift to The Robin Hood Foundation in memory of Philip Gregory Erdos, a friend, a leader, and a man of great dignity, we shall miss Philip and his contributions.
Philip Gregory Erdoes was a venture capitalist whose career reflected an uncommon breadth of intellectual curiosity and disciplined investment across data analytics, energy, media, and emerging technologies. He cultivated a reputation not only for identifying opportunity, but for engaging deeply with the ideas and systems that shaped the industries in which he invested.
A descendant of Paul Erdős—among the most prolific mathematicians of the twentieth century—and Otto Fritz Meyerhof, recipient of the 1922 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, Erdoes carried forward a legacy grounded in intellectual rigor and meaningful contribution. He viewed this inheritance not as distinction alone, but as a responsibility to create lasting impact.
He was deeply committed to philanthropy, supporting a range of causes with particular focus on Robin Hood, New York City’s leading anti-poverty organization, where he contributed to efforts addressing systemic inequality and economic mobility.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Callahan Erdoes, Chief Executive Officer of J.P. Morgan Private Bank and Chase Asset & Wealth Management, whose leadership continues to shape the global financial landscape.
Philip Erdoes is remembered for the rare combination of analytical depth, creative vision, and a principled commitment to improving the lives of others.
