Sugar Rautbord

When Randal  ‘Ran’  G. Moore resolved to expand educational opportunities for exceptional young people whose financial circumstances might otherwise preclude access to an outstanding private education, one of his earliest conversations was with a longtime trusted confidante and cherished friend, Sugar Rautbord.

A respected philanthropist and prominent socialite in both Chicago and Palm Beach, Ms. Rautbord has long shared Mr. Moore’s conviction that education remains one of society’s most enduring investments. Their friendship, built upon decades of mutual respect, has been distinguished by a common belief that meaningful philanthropy should not merely alleviate immediate need, but transform lives for generations.

From the earliest stages of what would become Friends of Norfleet, Ms. Rautbord’s counsel, insight, and steadfast encouragement proved invaluable. Her thoughtful perspective and unwavering commitment helped shape an initiative founded upon permanence rather than charity alone—an initiative designed to provide young scholars with every opportunity to realize their fullest potential.

Today, that shared vision has become a lasting reality. More than 650 students throughout the United States have benefited from comprehensive educational support through Friends of Norfleet. Each scholarship is structured to remove financial barriers entirely, providing tuition, books, academic materials, extracurricular programs, athletic participation, educational travel, and other essential resources necessary for a complete educational experience.

Unlike traditional scholarship programs, each award is secured through dedicated trust funding, ensuring continuous support from kindergarten through the successful completion of an accredited college or university education.

The enduring

friendship between Randal G. Moore and Sugar Rautbord stands as a testament to what can be accomplished when shared principles are joined with purposeful action. Together, they have demonstrated that thoughtful philanthropy, guided by vision and sustained commitment, possesses the power to alter not only individual lives, but the trajectory of generations to come.

In the establishment of FON, Randal Moore and Sugar Rautbord shared a vision which would transform the lives of students. The first FON candidates were welcomed on that August Day, as they embarked upon a new journey. Today the realization of the success of those students is celebrated.
