Lincoln Center ~ Remembers

Alta Moore Kadoorie graciously hosted a gathering honoring the life and legacy of the late Lyda Louise Moore, whose profound and enduring passion for the arts reflected her belief that their beauty, expression, and cultural significance made the world immeasurably richer and more complete.

The Moore Family Trust Foundation and it's enduring support to The Lincoln Center in memory of Lyda Louise Moore and her love of The Metropolitan Opera, 

New York Philharmonic, and the New York City Ballet. 

John Jay (1745–1829) was born in New York City but grew up on his family’s estate in Rye. His parents, Peter and Mary Jay, acquired the Rye property in 1745, and Jay lived there until age 15, when he left to attend King’s College, now Columbia University. 

His résumé is extraordinary. He served in both the First and Second Continental Congresses and later became President of the Continental Congress. With Robert R. Livingston and Gouverneur Morris, he helped draft New York’s 1777 Constitution. He subsequently served as American minister to Spain and, most importantly, joined Benjamin Franklin and John Adams in negotiating the 1783 Treaty of Paris, formally ending the Revolutionary War and securing British recognition of American independence

Jay Day is the Heritage Center’s traditional fall family festival at the Jay Estate. It is less a formal historical commemoration than a community celebration built around the historic property and its landscape.

For example, the September 2025 Jay Day was held on a Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and included pony and carriage rides, live music, garden tours, stilt walkers, nature talks, rocket demonstrations, quilt making and other activities. The Heritage Center described it as one of its favorite ways of celebrating the park and the community that supports it

The Moore Family Trust Foundation is honored to serve as a benefactor of the Jay Heritage Center and its continuing stewardship of the historic Jay Estate in Rye, New York. The Foundation’s support reflects a deeply held commitment to preserving the places, principles, and histories that shaped the American experience.

As the childhood home of Founding Father John Jay—statesman, diplomat, Governor of New York, and the first Chief Justice of the United States—the Jay Estate represents an extraordinary link between our nation’s founding and the generations entrusted with preserving its legacy.

Through its support of the Jay Heritage Center and traditions including Jay Day, the Moore Family Trust Foundation is proud to help ensure that this remarkable place remains not simply preserved, but alive—as a setting for education, reflection, community, and a fuller understanding of American history.
